DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICS
The Department of Pharmaceutics is a place where commitment to excellence in research, education and service is accomplished through the extraordinary productivity and success of our faculty, staff and students. The department is enriched with highly qualified faculty.
The department has 4 UG labs, one machine room and one post-graduate laboratory. The department is well equipped with the laboratories, ultra-modern research facilities, and competent staff. The UG labs include Pharmaceutics-I, Pharmaceutics-II, Microbiology and Physical Pharmacy.
The Department of Pharmaceutics in KMKCP, has M. Pharm & Ph.D specializations. It offers a training environment that includes the latest formulation laboratory instrumentation and technologies supervised by experienced teachers and dedicated staff.
Research Facilities:
The Machine room is unique in nature. The machine room is mainly helpful for standardization and optimization of unit operations and scale up process technologies of a wide range of dosage forms, conduction of PG research projects and handling various formulation developmental work .
The machine room has many equipments and machines to deal with dosage development including liquids (monophasic, biphasic), semisolids (ointments, creams, gels & suppositories), solids (powder, capsules, tablets), coating (pan & air suspension) drying (FBD, microwave, spray & freeze drying), size reduction (all types of mills), micro fluidisation and pelletization.
The labs have certain GMP standards implemented including concealed water and sewage lines, sunken basin, laminated table tops, microscope lights, balance covers and provision of adequate lockers. There is an independent preparation area in each labratory.
Final Year Pharmaceutics practical including aseptic handlings i.e. dealing with sterile operations are conducted in Lab-II. This lab has one of the best designed sterile area with wash and change areas, air locks, HEPA filters and well designed service lines. Sterility and air handling are of high quality. Conception and functioning of the machine room attached to the dept is quite unique in nature and designed following modular concept.
GMP compliance viz. Air change, ventilation, cleanliness, anti insect / anti infest arrangements and the essential utility services (electricity, water, sewage, compressed air and vacuum) are well taken care of. Facilities generated are approximately worth about Rs.2 ½ crores.
Research Areas of the faculty members:
The department has marked its importance in research activities by having more than 25 publications, 3 patents in the area of drug delivery in last 5 years. The faculties are specialized in area of Formulation development which includes oral, transdermal, transmucosal and parenteral. Over the time, formulation scientists of the department have acquired adequate expertise and skills to develop any kinds of modern formulations of drugs which are in demand and are need of the day. These developments are largely based on the concepts dosage design, biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics and driven by pharmacodynamic activities and therapeutic needs. With the impetus for the development of newer delivery systems, the faculty and research scientists have been able to file patents on different formulations.
The department undertakes research projects from the government as well as private funding agencies. It has set up research collaborations within the university, with other universities and companies. Also, it has an excellent placement record.
Academic and research excellence is achieved by meeting the current requirements of pharmaceutical industries, academics, and regulatory bodies. Several research articles are published in reputed journals every year.
