Self-learning is a learning method that involves studying without direct supervision or attendance in a classroom. Self-learning allows each student to tackle problems based on their capabilities. Since students can take control of what (and how) they are learning, it can be a very valuable way for many students to learn. Self-learning ability is a necessity in higher education. It empowers students to become confident and independent when encountering challenges. Self-learning is promoted in the institute by generating facilities under various modes. The faculty members encourage the students to use these facilities. The various facilities and modes created for self-learning include Library resources including books and journals, a variety of internet-based e-resources, as well as guest lectures and seminars arranged to expose the students to topics beyond the syllabus. The institute also takes into consideration the laboratory experiments aspects of self-learning and includes some experiments beyond the syllabus and promotes self-learning enabled through projects. Additionally, the institute is in the process of setting up an e-learning center through funding to be received under DST-FIST.
